danceTactics performance group is hailed for its ability to “show dance as a reason unto itself” (New York Times). Thompson’s work is dance undressed. Transmitting sheer kinetic energy through unexpected pathways, danceTactics’ “engagingly individual dancers” investigate the exchange of intricate, yet exquisitely simple and supple movement. Thompson’s unique ability to orchestrate fresh, vivid impressions of movement lays the groundwork for an abstract telling of humanity’s story. Keith Thompson’s experience as a principal dancer touring with Trisha Brown for over a decade adds to his professionalism.
“Mr. Thompson proved equally adept at overt drama and comedy . . . a nuanced, well-plotted exploration of urgent emotional divides . . .”
- Jennifer Dunning, New York Times

5-Dancer Program
JumpCut
This signature piece, with music by Robert Een, deals with male competition and camaraderie through physicality. It has a Capoeira influence and employs a lot of partnering.
Remembering Your Paradoxical Whisper
With music remixed by Nate Aldrich, this piece is a meditation on the death of Keith’s father, and uses only gentle, fluid movement.
Blueprints of Relentless Nature
Focused on the words delay, sustain, and relentless, this high-velocity work maps energy patterns that shift, split, and reorient, while the playful, grounded essence never ranges too far from the breathing bodies that helped create it.
All Things Big Dream
In honor of Charles Darwin’s 200th birthday in February 2009, this piece is loosely based on Darwin, his wife, and his strange, unexpected behavior from 1844-1859.
10-Dancer Program
Vignette
Choreographed to classical music by Giovanni Pergolesi, this piece uses solos, duets, and trios to portray several events transforming from movement and gesture into raw energy.
Silent Echo
Set to the music of Trio Bravo, this piece is one phrase that passes through each dancer, with the focus on a solo figure.
Big Love (Version 1)
Inspired by the Charles Mee play of the same title, Big Love uses Mee’s narrative to create a theatrically charged farce where love is explored both comically and poignantly.
