Artistic director Darion Smith is putting Janusphere Dance Company firmly onto the American map of dance. Janusphere dancers include African-American and multi-cultural performers and epitomize energy and precision as they lead audiences into dramatically-choreographed dancescapes of contemporary ballet. Smith, together with the other Janusphere resident and guest choreographers, makes innovative use of classical, modern and contemporary themes and styles. As noted by Jennifer Dunning of the New York Times, “these dancers stand out for their long, clean classical ballet line…” If to have danced is to have lived, Janusphere is bursting to its seams with life, for as Ellen O’Connel of the Santa Barbara Independent said, “…they are certainly mighty in repertoire and spirit.”

This new program will premiere original work from Darion Smith, Danielle Genest, Derek Williams, and Nikki Hefko. Music from Reinhold Heil (original score world premiere) and music from Dick Hyman performed live by David LaMarche and Yuval Waldman and costumes by Christina Giannini (Studio Giannini).
