Eidolon Ballet (Chicago/NYC)
www.eidolonballet.org

Led by Artistic Director Melanie Cortier, Eidolon is a chamber-sized contemporary ballet company performing innovative works by emerging choreographers. Since its inception in 1999, Eidolon has earned a reputation for developing an accessible, unorthodox, and fun-loving form of dance. Eidolon contrasts ballet and modern dance with ethnic, modern, and classical music, creating a universal dance experience. The company’s accomplished and versatile dancers boldly entertain audiences with works featuring divergent scores, ranging from Carl Stalling’s “Merrie Melodies” to the percussion of Leon Parker, and the folk music of Leadbelly.

"...wide-ranging themes, techniques, and emotional impacts, treats the audience to ever-changing, ever-surprising, but mostly ever-delightful movements and moments... " David St. Lascaux, The Brooklyn Rail

"…marvelously acrobatic and athletic…the production elements are simple but elegant…" Loren Noveck - NYTheatre.com

"…Harmoniously crafted…danced with fetching fluidity…" Lisa Jo Sagolla, Backstage & The Daily News

"…dynamic and beautiful…"  - Stephen Tortora-Lee

"…engaging…lovely…captivating…" Pataphysical Science

Touring Programs
Tours with 10-15 dancers

Decology: Mixed Repertory
Apposition – Set to the modern jazz percussion of Leon Parker, the traditionally lyrical forms of classical ballet are juxtaposed with playful, quicksilver, and staccato 20th Century music, taking ballet into a multicultural stream.

Piano Pieces – A suite of dances performed to the accompaniment of South African classical pianist Robert Leniewski. Each piece relates the story of a different relationship, from family to friends to lovers.

Billy’s Red Socks – A fun-loving and playful contemporary ballet in a marriage with a musical stroke of inspiration. It is clumsy and hazardous, nave and preposterous. Created to the sounds of potato-mashers and children’s toys, with Pascal Ayerbe’s found instruments and music setting the backdrop.

Dashpot – An exploration of dampening dancers’ movement by utilizing fabric as the limiting factor. Music by the Thai Elephant Orchestra adds yet further complexity with its arrhythmic and irregular, nonhuman sound.

Mana – A modern piece set to the Hawaiian slack-key guitar music of Moses Kahumoku, Ozzie Kotani, and Keola Beamer. It was created in response to the destruction of a Hawaiian volcano by the military, and to nature’s inherent ability to regenerate.

Untitled – A collaboration with Natalia Paruz, New York’s famous ‘Saw Lady’.
