Bowen McCauley Dance (Washington, DC)
www.bmdc.org
BMD energizes broadly diverse
audiences with inventive and vibrant choreography – a fusion of
contemporary and classical techniques set to a sweeping range of
musical styles. Showcasing McCauley’s choreography, our award-winning
company is renowned for its spirited dancers, use of live music, the
professionalism of its dance performances and its extraordinary
outreach programs for socio-economically diverse communities.
“Before we even start talking
about how good the dancing was at Bowen McCauley Dance’s 15th
anniversary gala Saturday night, we have to talk about how good it was
that this local company was able to perform at The Kennedy Center’s
Terrace Theater, with live musicians, before a sold-out audience. That
was awesome.”

Touring Programs
The current tour includes Telemetry,
Ozone, Lucy’s Playlist, ReSuitened, and Apostasis.
Telemetry
– This hard pulsing, electrifying, large ensemble work takes audiences
on a wild ride, punctuated with allusions to some of the seedier sides
of life.
Ozone
- a major new work for the entire Company is set to original music by
renowned American composer Larry Alan Smith for cello, flute and voice,
and inspired by Rita Dove’s poem by the same name. Ms. Dove, a Pulitzer
Prize winning former poet laureate of the United States is the youngest
person and first African-American to receive this highest official
honor in American letters. On tour, the poem can be recited by a member
of the community.
Lucy’s
Playlist – This Company work brings ‘80’s pop and rock tunes to
life with an amped up performance. The energy is infectious!
ReSuitened
- This lovely quartet is a new collaboration between Lucy Bowen
McCauley and NSO cellist Yvonne Caruthers, who has created a special
arrangement of Bach cello suites.
Apostasis
- This male solo set to glorious piano music by Michael White,
showcases the grace, charisma, and athleticism of the featured dancer.
