News Paper, May 2011 Ashley A. Friend Ashley
A. Friend offers a dynamic, artistically daring, and modern experience
of American dance. ID-iloveamerica is a response to the current
cultural climate, new technologies, and her travels around the United
States. As a contemporary dance choreographer since 2001 Friend
has crafted a unique intricate and idiosyncratic movement vocabulary
called the scary body. Her work is compelling and mysterious,
giving the viewer pause for personal interpretations and lasting
impressions. “Her dance is arresting and her
strong tactile gestural movements are governed by a sensitive control
of dynamics.”
BodyStories:
Teresa Fellion Dance exists to embody the raw, rhythmic force of
universal human encounters, conversing at the core of emotional
commonality. The company aims to share art that inspires audiences to
physically sense emotional and psychological aspects of the human
condition onstage, which can then connect to their own expansive
potential. Audience members claim the resulting movement catapults the
viewers’ passion, wraps it into twisting curvatures onstage and returns
it with the power of a lighting bolt. -Caroline Whitham, Edinburgh Festivals Magazine Click here for expanded profile > > back to top

PLUS "Cats Paying Dues" “The
dedication, skill and showmanship of Andrew and his company CPD PLUS
made both sold-out shows a highlight of our Just Kidding program.”
Company
SoGoNo employs an innovative vocabulary that draws from Japanese Butoh
dance, Ruth Zaporah’s Action Theater, and contemporary dance-theater.
Movement and sound ranges from wild and boldly expressive to quiet and
intricate. Characters are often archetypal, referencing fairytales and
dream symbolism. The mood of the work is surreal, flat-out funny, and
fable-like. "Exhilarating dance-theater" – Angela Ashman, Village Voice "Brilliance...seductive... mesmerizing...impressive collaboration.” – Lynn Berg, nytheater.com “Vivid physical theater” – The New Yorker Click here for expanded profile > > back to top Daniel Gwirtzman Dance Company www.GwirtzmanDance.org | Click to Watch Video “The dancers can’t help but smile,” writes The New Yorker. With a large repertory noted for its entertaining flair, stylistic diversity, musicality, innovation and accessibility neither can the audiences. Blending virtuosic precision with pedestrian ease, the infectiously appealing dancers are renowned for their charisma. “A troupe I’d follow anywhere,” says The Village Voice. A nonprofit performing and teaching organization, the Daniel Gwirtzman Dance Company’s educational programming allows anyone to join in the dance. Hard to categorize. Easy to enjoy. Since 1998. *Daniel was internationally applauded for years as a dancer touring with Garth Fagan Dance and Mark Morris Dance Group. “With an eye for beauty and
an exacting attention to detail, Daniel Gwirtzman takes good care of
his audience and his performers. His ideal of beauty is kind to
the body: His choreography celebrates the long lines and
musculature of dancers’ bodies. The dancers are flawless and
picture perfect too.” --- Julia Holland, Show Business “Mr.
Gwirtzman does know that in dance less can be more. And that’s a
good thing for any choreographer to know. He can evoke strong
feelings with a few gestures.” Deoro/Hammerstep This groundbreaking new collaborative show is presented by two of the most innovative and talented groups in their respective fields. World-renowned cellist Dave Eggar and his Grammy-nominated band, Deoro, are reinventing the classical genre by infusing it with hip-hop, reggae, bluegrass, jazz, pop, and world music. This powerhouse group of musicians joins forces with the world champion dancers of Hammerstep, a revolutionary dance show striving to overcome cultural and socioeconomic differences through an integration of previously rebellious urban dance forms like traditional Irish step, tap, and hip hop.
