Gehring Dancetheatre

Born from a strong desire to make her own rules while integrating
different styles of dance, Heather Gehring created Gehring Dancetheatre
in
2003. Today, Gehring Dancetheatre portrays a vision of strength and
beauty
in the company of all women, performing original choreography that has
breathtaking elements of partnering and acrobatics. With roots in
ballet,
modern, and tango, the company appeals to vast audiences with their
accessibility and striking power. By challenging each dancer to reach
beyond her own personal perceived limitations, the audience becomes
inspired to do the same.
“...risky and bold
partnerings...a refreshing change of pace...”

Touring Programs
rEVOLUTIONS -
Tours with 8-10 dancers
Perfect for any audience, this full-length program of nine pieces
weaves a rich tapestry showcasing Gehring Dancetheatre’s versatility.
Accenting the company’s strong partnering abilities as well as their
strength and balance, highlights from the program include:
Fugata &
Le Grand Tango
Twirling colored skirts and a flowing white scarf fill the stage in
this tightly-executed piece made up of four movements that combine
classical ballet, modern dance and driving tango. Set to Yo-Yo Ma and
Kathryn Stott’s rendition of Piazzolla, this piece emphasizes balletic
lines, extensions, and intricate footwork.
Reflections
Dark and ominous, set to the pounding electronica of Nine Inch Nails,
this piece pits dancers against each other in a tense game of cat and
mouse. The dancers battle -- using lifts, throws and
seemingly-dangerous drops – symbolizing a fight against their personal
demons.
Visions
An ethereal vision in white, soloists flow in and out, while framed by
and intertwining with supporting performers. This signature
Gehring Dancetheatre piece, will leave the audience haunted and
hypnotized.
Still
Emotion expressed perfectly through movement, as a soloist fills a
nearly-bare stage with her portrayal of loss and grief.
Up And Away
From the very first moment on stage – six dancers, three suspending the
others in headstands -- DJ Krush’s hammering beats drive the dancers to
their limits, with impossible lifts, upside-down balances and other
feats of body contortion.
Collections - Tours with
6-8 dancers
Lasting only 45 minutes, this program is perfect for school shows and
split bills. The program is made up of six pieces, highlights are:
Excerpts
from Ruth
Inspired by the Old Testament story about Naomi and Ruth, this piece is
a story of friendship, devotion and loyalty between a mother and her
daughter-in-law with music from Peter Gabriel’s Passion.
Cirque
Light, fun and airy as springtime flowers floating on the wind, this
piece is an explosion of color and movement set to music from Yann
Tierson’s Amelie soundtrack.
P.S. I Love
You
Capturing the sensual, smoky atmosphere of old-time jazz clubs and
nightclub singers, this blues solo is set to one of Billie Holliday’s
most famous songs.
Recessional
Dancers flow like water across the stage in this quiet, feminine piece.
The perfect, satisfied breath that ends most performances.
